Assisting the Rebuilding of St. Michael's Cathedral Church - Coimbatore, India
Every Lent our parish does a Lenten project of helping the poor by our financial contribution. This year Fr. Antony requests the parish to help his home diocese in Coimbatore, India.
Last September when he spent his vacation with his mother in India, Fr. Antony had the opportunity to visit the Cathedral parish where he was ordained a priest and served as an associate for two years. The township issued an order to pull down the cathedral church built by French missionaries 150 years ago as it was not safe anymore to worship. The masses and services were celebrated in a tent, which held 300 worshippers and the rest of the congregation stood outside the tent throughout the entire Mass.
The parishioners along with their pastor and bishop requested our help to build the new Church. You can view some of the pitcures of the present tent-church and people at work in the Narthex, and we will publish pictures on this website as well. The Catholics in India are just 1.5% of the total population. The parishioners of this Cathedral church need close to 3 million dollars to build the Cathedral for both their parish and for the bigger congregations duing diocesan celebrations. Being few in number and not financially strong to meet the costs, they extend their hands to us for help.
Please consider this Lenten project. As this diocese was kind enough to share Fr. Antony with our own diocese, so too may we return the favor by helping those in Coimbatore who are in need.
